Inaugural Isle of Man Pickleball Festival
It was our privilege to support the Isle of Man’s Ellan Vannin Pickleball Club at the island’s first ever pickleball festival. The two-day event, held at the National Sports Centre on 9 and 10 September, attracted over 80 participants, half of which came over from the mainland.
The Pop Over and Pop-Up Tour
Rob and I went over with a carload of paddles, balls, bags and t-shirts for our pop-up shop. Being on a small island with a small number of players, meant that many people had never had the opportunity to hold, let alone play with, a pickleball paddle before buying one. However, over the weekend, players got the opportunity to play with up to 70 different paddles from brands including, CRBN, Legacy, Vatic Pro and Volair. Rob and I were delighted to meet so many lovely picklers – discussing their playing styles (current and future) and suggesting paddles for them to try.
What struck Rob and I the most was the atmosphere – relaxed, fun and friendly. The aim of the festival was to promote the growth and development of the game on the island and show how much fun it is for people of all ages.
The Festival delivered
The festival definitely delivered on its aim! Not only did it see existing players having great fun, but there were also interested islanders popping in to see what all the fuss was about and having a go themselves!
From a Pickleball People perspective, lots of new friends were made and we hope to get the opportunity to visit this beautiful island again. Thank you, Ellan Vannin Pickleball Club.
